Privacy Policy of the Photo to Text OCR App

Collection of statistics

This app collects usage and crash data to find potential issues and to prioritize future feature development.
This app does not store any personalized data, images, or extracted text. However, depending on the selected language, the app may upload your images to an external API to do advanced OCR. Please see the section "Upload to external APIs" below to find out how to prevent that (e.g. if you want to do OCR on sensitive documents).

This app uses the following capabilities of your device:

Photos (Picture Gallery)
The app lets you select images in order to do optical character recognition (OCR). The app only accesses images that you have selected. The app does not store images or extracted text.

Camera
The app lets you take a picture of a text in order to do optical character recognition (OCR). Once again, the app accesses only the specific image you have taken and does not store the image or the extracted text.

Upload to external APIs

If you select "auto detect" in the language dropdown, images will be uploaded to an external API (see below). All other languages use the offline OCR functionality available in Windows.

The "auto detect" OCR capabilities of the "Photo to Text OCR" app use the Microsoft Project Oxford APIs. Microsoft will receive the images that you upload (via this app) for service improvement purposes. To report abuse of the Project Oxford APIs to Microsoft, please visit the Microsoft Project Oxford website at www.projectoxford.ai, and use the “Report Abuse” link at the bottom of the page to contact Microsoft. For more information about Microsoft privacy policies please see their privacy statement here: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=521839.

The app will indicate whether images get uploaded or not as soon as you select a language. Please make sure you have selected the right option if you want to extract text from sensitive documents.
